Hello! Welcome to my blog! I will be working to bring you all updates on my productions, processes, life in the field and any other interesting things I come up with!

First I wanted to begin this blog by introducing myself. My name is Karen Stigar (soon Stigar-Paulk!) I am a film enthusiast currently getting my Master's in Documentary Film-making from the University of Arkansas. I am also currently working on my thesis film in Panajachel, Guatemala on the Kaqchikel language and how it has been experiencing a "shift" to Spanish. Scholars identify shift as the first step towards language loss. (There will be a whole other post about this project in the future)

On to more about who I am. I have worked in the non-profit sector for the past few years creating video and photo content for museums in Bentonville, Arkansas and San Antonio, Texas. I realized I wanted to do bigger projects than just simple videos for social media and that led me to applying to grad school for a higher degree in film.

I love culture and languages (I also have an undergraduate degree in Spanish) and I have always wanted to explore cultures through the unique medium of film. I thought museums would satiate this feeling of exploration but after much soul-searching and trial-and-error I am finally doing what I love through documentary filmmaking.

I am an Arkansas native and attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I am a libra, crafter, film photography enthusiast, lover of new things and a dog mom to 3 fur babies- Fig, Naomi and Rodney. I live in Eureka Springs, Arkansas (when I am not in a foreign country!) with my husband, Kolin.

I look forward to a life of exploration and storytelling!

My aspirations are to work for National Geographic or similar organization and make a living traveling and telling stories along the way!

One of my favorite quotes is "You make your own reality" and I try to live by that every day.

Hope to see you along the way!

-Karen
